Level OSI: Switches of level 2 (data link)
Level 2 switches operate on the basis of physical network addresses. These addresses, also known as MAC, or level of binding, physical addresses are used to identify each device. Most of the devices receive a physical address permanent during the manufacturing process.
Level 2 switches are very fast because they just sorting physical addresses, without attempting to inmore about the destination of the packets of data.
