An oxygen concentrator is a device for medical use for people suffering respiratory failure. Oxygen concentrators are also used for non-medical purposes in aircraft with non-pressurized cabins to compensate for the lack of oxygen in the ambient air.
Its principle is to concentrate oxygen from the air removing nitrogen (air consists of 21% oxygen and 78% nitrogen). This unit can concentrate oxygen from the air to a rate close to 90%. The nitrogen removal is achieved through a molecular sieve made of zeolite, nitrogen being trapped by this sieve. Its advantage over the oxygen cylinders medical is its cost, and also the fact that its oxygen source is of course available anywhere.
